Our passion for providing the best dental care to our patients doesn’t stop at our practice in Lymm. We want you to make the best of your chosen dental treatment and especially if you have chosen to get fixed or traditional braces, as this is one of our longest orthodontic treatment. Traditional fixed braces can last up to 3 years depending on the severity of the orthodontic problem.
Follow these simple steps and you’ll be rewarded with a show-stopping grin!
1. Brush teeth: probably the most important tip! Brushing twice a day or after eating is essential. Use soft bristled tooth brush for the top and bottom brackets and use a proxabrush for between braces.
2. Floss teeth: Once or twice a day floss your teeth by putting the thread under the arch-wire and between the teeth. You can use a floss threader if need be.
3. Wear a mouthguard: Protect your mouth and braces when playing sports by wearing a mouthguard. You can buy generic ones or ask your orthodontist for custom fit mouthguards.
4. Foods to avoid: There are some foods that can damage your teeth and braces. Avoid chewing ice, whole carrots, caramel, chewy and hard candy, popcorn, gum, peanut brittle, whole apples and corn on the cob.
Other foods can increase risk of tooth decay or staining, such as fizzy drinks, lemon juice, fruit juices and fruit smoothies.
