If you are considering dental implants, then chances are you will have plenty of questions about the procedure and what it involves. Some of these questions, for nervous patients, in particular, may be holding you back from seeking out a consultation. As such, here are some of the most frequently asked questions we receive about dental implants here at Dental Solutions, with some reassuring answers!
Whether you are undergoing treatment for an Individual Dental Implant, All on Four treatment or otherwise, the answer to this question is always the same: no. The full procedure is painless due to local anaesthetics given by the oral surgeon. If you are at all anxious then sedation can also be arranged to put you fully at ease.
Afterwards, you may experience some swelling and pain. This is typical of any procedure and we recommend taking pain relief such as paracetamol to manage the pain.
The healing process following implant surgery can be as little as 7 days. During this time, you may need to eat soft foods, experience light bleeding or bruising in the implant area, and some pain at the site. If swelling or discomfort persists, then you can simply contact your oral surgeon here at Dental Solutions for a quick check-up. Antibiotics or further medication may then be prescribed.
Age is typically not an issue when it comes to dental implant surgery. The required bone healing surrounding the dental implant occurs in younger and older patients alike, making it ideal for several age ranges. General medical health and suitability to undergo the procedure is the only likely barrier for any older patient wishing to undergo the procedure. All of which is discussed fully with your dentist in the initial consultation.
As you can see, we see patients of all ages for dental implants – all patients in this image have received our All on 4 dental implant treatment.
Dental implants, particularly the All on Four treatment, can be a fantastic alternative to dentures. As it can help to remove the day to day embarrassment of dentures; they will not fall out or slip at any point. Here at Dental Solutions we also offer Denture Implants to help solve this very issue. This is a type of dental implant which helps to keep your denture in place, removing the need for adhesive.
Implants need to be cared for in the same way as your natural teeth, with regular brushing and flossing (using implant-specific floss). Regular visits to your dentist and dental hygienist are also still important. Doing so will allow you to maintain your implant for a much longer period of time.
