All On 4: Are Dental Implants Safe?

Choosing to have All On 4 dental implants may be one of the most important decisions you make during your lifetime, especially if you have long suffered from dental problems. It isn’t unusual to be concerned about the potential problems involved with the treatment and wondering “are dental implants safe?”, However, All on 4 is a very safe and effective treatment and there are many benefits involved.

Dental implants have around a 95% success rate, but this doesn’t mean that very occasionally some problems don’t occur. The All On 4 implant procedure itself is very safe and is carried out in the same way that all surgical procedures are, with maximum care and support from our team. Getting All On 4 dental implants is one of the most successful treatments offered in terms of dentistry, but although the chance of risks is very low, this doesn’t mean that you can’t be prepared.

What Are All On 4 Dental Implants?

All On 4 dental implants are a modern fixed alternative to dentures and are very natural in terms of their look and feel in your mouth. 4 Implants are placed into your gum using local anaesthetic and titanium pegs are used to create a root to which your new arch can be attached. Over the period of a few months, the implants will fuse with your jawbone and act as replacement roots, creating a stronger and longer-lasting effect. When wondering “are dental implants safe?”, the treatment itself is very safe and is carried out by our team of experts led by Dr Richard Brookshaw and Dr Gavin Laidlaw.

Benefits Of All On 4 Dental Implants

There are many benefits of getting All On 4 implants, which is one of the reasons why the treatment is so popular. These benefits include:

  • A permanent fixed solution that stays in your mouth like normal teeth do.
  • Improved appearance and boost in self-esteem and confidence
  • Better speech and ability to eat the foods you love
  • More comfortable than dentures
  • Improved oral health

Are Dental Implants Safe?

Whilst All On 4 dental implants are successful in the vast majority of cases and the treatment itself is very safe, as with any health procedure, there is a slim chance that you may incur a problem. It is important to remember that any problem incurred as a result of a dental implant is typically short-lived and will likely occur during the early stages following your treatment and aren’t serious. Dental implants are safe and here at Dental Solutions, we have a dedicated team of experienced implant experts who will help to put any worries you have at ease and provide full aftercare, but with this in mind, here are some of the most common complications that can occur following dental implant treatments.

  • Infection

All dental implant treatments include an element of surgery and involve local anaesthetic. There is a very small chance of infection from the treatment itself, but as your mouth contains bacteria, there is a chance that an infection can develop following your treatment. Typically, you can expect some swelling and mild pain/discomfort following your All On 4 treatment, but anything beyond this may indicate that there is an infection present. Usually, these types of infection are down to improper aftercare or poor healing, so if you notice any issues, then please contact us immediately.

  • Implant Movement

Dental implants need time following your treatment to fuse with your jawbone and any movement can cause your implants to become unstable. For around 8-12 weeks, your dental implants are vulnerable to movement and movement may mean that they don’t attach and grow into your jawbone properly and can cause a problem where you may need further treatment to correct any incorrect movement.

Movement can be caused by not following the post-implant guidelines provided by your dentist. Dietary choices, such as crunchy or hard foods, can cause the implant to shift, so always follow the recommendations given to you following your treatment.

Here at Dental Solutions, we have a devoted team of dental implant dentists and even have a dedicated implant suite here at our clinic. We strive to provide an excellent experience for you every step of the way throughout your implant treatment.
