As the new year begins, how do we achieve optimal oral health in 2015? Many of us know how hard it is to fully commit to new year’s resolution, which is why we have decided to help you set realistic goals for a healthier smile. Here are our resolutions to follow for 2015:
Before buying a new toothbrush, you will need to brush at least twice a day for 2 minutes. Change your toothbrush once every 3 months and even earlier if the bristles are frayed which makes the toothbrush less effective at removing plaque from teeth and gums. You should always let your toothbrush air out between brushes and store it away from other toothbrushes.
Flossing is very much overlooked by people, although it is an important part of the oral health care routine and should be done at least once a day, reaching the gaps between the teeth where the toothbrush can’t go.
If flossing your teeth is a real chore to you, you can start by having a flossing strategy. During the first month, you can start by flossing two times a week, in the second month, three times a week and so on until you’ve acquired the habit of flossing your teeth once every day.
To prevent oral health problems, you will need to visit the dentist at least twice a year, although the number of visits may vary for each person.
These dental check ups allow us to see if you have any dental problems by searching for cavities, examining your gums and helping keep your mouth healthy.
Good nutrition is a factor that plays an important role in keeping your teeth strong. This year, aim for a healthier diet by limiting your intake of sweets and acidic drinks and increasing the consumption of fruits and raw vegetables.
