The team at Dental Solutions really miss not working together whilst the practice is closed due to COVID-19 restrictions- and they really miss our lovely patients too! The team all keep in touch with each other every Friday night with a Zoom chat to keep the team morale going strong.
Here’s what some of them have been doing to keep busy…… we look forward to seeing you again at the Practice very soon!
Gavin has been working with engineers and biologists at Astra Zeneca at the forefront of new technology to develop a screen to minimise COVID-19 transmissions with patients and dentistry teams.
He’s still been at the practice working with our practice Manager Nicola to assist our emergency patients. He has been ensuring that all the IT systems are updated, in addition to keeping abreast with the latest developments in Dentistry with weekly online training for his continuous professional development.
Missing his usual leisure time keep fit pursuits of Golfing, Fishing and Football, Gavin has instead been cycling 16k a day. Before the lockdown started, Gavin ordered a skip and has been happily using it to clear out unwanted items from his garage and house, he’s also been busy in the garden building a new patio and seating area.
Nicky has been coming into the practice every day and advising our patients wherever possible. She’s been spending time chatting to the patients who are self-isolating on their own to keep them company. Nicky has also been delivering antibiotics and special high fluoride Duraphat toothpaste when prescribed by Gavin.
At home, Nicky is missing her eldest daughter Holly who is isolating elsewhere, but instead, she has been zooming and doing a weekly pub quiz and a Saturday night bongo’s bingo. She’s been playing cards and darts and shopping for the in-laws too. She’s had the time to watch a few good films including ‘Green Book’ and ‘1917’.
Albert, her Italian spinone, can’t wait for them to go back to work as he’s shattered. He usually sleeps all day when Nicky and her husband Simon are both at work instead of all the walking he’s currently getting.
Finally, DIY projects have also kept Nicky occupied. She’s ripped up the stairs carpet and has painted them instead, and her next job is re papering the dining room as soon as the DIY stores are open!
Janet is fully involved in a ‘Leave No-one Behind’ group for Lymm. She is a ‘Street Champ’ in the area of Lymm that she lives and has 3 ladies who have volunteered to help her. She’s been shopping and picking up prescriptions for those who are vulnerable or isolating – as there is a lot of sheltered accommodation nearby so this has kept her quite busy.
When not in Street Champ mode she’s been doing even more baking than usual and even baking her own bread when she can get her hands on some flour! Janet and her husband Roger have been walking every day for an hour or so – even using her bike which she’s not done for years. The weather has been kind, so like a lot of people she’s been gardening and painting the fence/shed ready for the summer ahead.
She’s been using Zoom to catch up with friends – but not done a quiz or bingo yet. Janet is also fully prepared for a rainy day and has borrowed a couple of jigsaws but is yet to start one – let’s hope she doesn’t need to!
Lauren has two young pre-school children William and Georgia. Her key role currently is to provide constant entertainment for them including playdough, painting, and puzzles. She’s also been spending time potty training William which has been helped by being outside and also doing lots of gardening projects with all the lovely weather- not too many accidents from William so far!
When not with her lively twosome Lauren has been keeping up to speed professionally with regular dentistry webinars and online learning. In the occasional moment she gets to herself to relax, Lauren’s also been learning the art of embroidery.
Lisa, like all our team is really missing work and the team spirit at Dental Solutions. The team get together each Friday night for a virtual drink and Zoom chat which helps to keep everyone at Solutions in touch with each other. She is also actually loving to have some proper quality time with her family as it’s not very often she has that luxury.
Lisa has been busy doing lots of projects in the house and takes 3-mile walks with the dogs each day which means that she’s never felt fitter.
Amy has been doing NHS emergency dental work for the other practice she works for in Merseyside.
Her house is a renovation project, so she’s started work on the staircase and the job has just gotten bigger and bigger.
A keen ultra-marathon runner, Amy has been running and walking her dog Gryff (her poor dog is exhausted too) and in the absence of mountains she has done a LOT of step ups!! Amy’s also been updating her cookery skills by cooking from a book called the Cycling Chef which she’s been thoroughly enjoying too.
Kath has been kept fully occupied doing some continuous professional development training to keep her nursing qualification up to date. Apart from home schooling with her daughter Ella, she’s been baking lots of cakes from banana bread to brownies. She’s been working out every day, cleaning the house from top to bottom, decorating, gardening. She’s also discovered TikTok which has kept her amused and has had the occasional glass of wine to keep lubricated!
Dental Nurse Louise is self – isolating with her partner Dominic, her 4 pet rabbits and hamster. Louise has been decorating her new home and helping Dominic to renovate his flat too. Keeping busy where possible with zoom fitness classes, and enjoying the sunshine whenever she can.
