What the New iTero Element Scanner Can Bring to Digital Dentistry

At Dental Solutions, we’re lucky enough to now be home to a new iTero Element scanner. It means we can take a step further into the fascinating and innovative world of digital dentistry, putting us at the forefront of dental technology. So, what is digital dentistry? And how will our new iTero Element scanner help us to better serve our patients? Read on to find out more.

What is Digital Dentistry?

In recent years, methods of dentistry have been able to advance thanks to incredible developments in technology. Digital dentistry is essentially a term used to describe such advancements, whereby digital or computer controlled components are being introduced into treatments. When it first came about, it was largely in relation to computer aided design and computer aided manufacturing. However, now it can be utilised for more complex dentistry. Some common forms of digital dentistry include computer-aided implants, lasers and digital radiography.

The iTero Element Scanner

The iTero Element Intraoral Scanner has a number of innovative features. This will allow us to push the boundaries of modern dentistry. It features a main screen and advanced wand to help us work as efficiently and as quickly as possible. The scanner is engineered to be compatible with a number of treatments, including Invisalign and implants. It features built-in controls, with integrated gyro technology that lets us rotate models on the screen.

What’s more, we’re also able to use the scanner for planning implants, crowns and veneers. While the dentist is scanning the mouth, there’s no need to click each time they want to capture a scan. Instead, the software automatically detects the scan’s start and stop each time it’s move to a new scanning position. The images are then projected in colour on the screen. Which makes it easier to distinguish between gingival and tooth structures, creating more precise work for dentists.

How Will This Affect our Patients?

We can now scan our orthodontics patients while the scanner instantly transfers the image on the screen to create a visual in 3D. This improves visibility and allows the dentist to plan the treatment for the patient, seeing how their smile could eventually look. Patients will also be involved in this process, so they can see exactly what improvements are being made to their teeth.

Our investment in this technology means we’re able to offer our patients the highest level of care.
