Your Teeth During Christmas
As the holiday season is fast approaching, it is important to take extra care of our teeth as our sugar intake goes up as we can overindulge in sweets and alcohol.
At Dental Solutions Lymm we decided to give you some pointers in how to maintain healthy teeth over the Christmas period;
The general rule is to brush your teeth three times a day using a fluoride toothpaste and floss at least once. Some might find this very hard, especially considering the constant snacking but this effort is definitely worth it.
Chew on sugar free gums for about 10 minutes, as chewing will create saliva which will help wash away acids and sugar, as discussed previously on our blog post about sugar and cavities.
Stick to eating sweets and sugary foods only during meal times.
Let’s all avoid making Christmas a miserable period of time for our teeth. The Chief Executive of the British Dental Health Foundation, Dr Nigel Carter OBE, said: “It is important to be extra vigilant with your oral health over the Christmas period. It is not how much sugary food and drink we consume that is the problem, it is how often we have these. If you think about how much is consumed, and how often, particularly over Christmas and Boxing Day, your teeth don’t really get the chance to recover”.
