We all at some point in our lives, usually between the ages of 17 and 25, get wisdom teeth. They are the last teeth to appear and we don’t always have room for more teeth as some people may have smaller jaws.
The main reasons for removing or extracting the wisdom teeth is when they are causing the following problems:
At Dental Solutions we will carry out x-rays to see the position of the root and decide if there is enough room for the tooth to come our properly, if the tooth is problematic then it will be removed. However, wisdom teeth are only removed when there is a need for it or when it will benefit the patient.
The procedure for the extraction of the wisdom tooth involves administration of anaesthesia to avoid any discomfort. A minor surgery is then performed where the tissue and bone around the wisdom tooth are removed so that the tooth can be cleanly extracted from the socket.
Several stitches may be needed to close the surgical site and promote healing of the overlying tissue.
